Gait Scan & Orthotics

"Offaly Physio & Performance Lab  are advanced biomechanical practitioners who specialise in the assessment and prescription of custom made foot orthotics"

GaitScan

The GaitScan™ system featuring TOG Client Software is an innovative diagnostic tool and digital casting device that allows practitioners to analyze patient biomechanics and order custom orthotics. With 4096 sensors and a scan rate of 300Hz (frames per second), GaitScan™ is the industry leader in dynamic scanning capability.

With both diagnostic and educational capabilities, GaitScan™ provides a comprehensive biomechanical evaluation for each patient. In-depth, informative reports give you access to over a million data points which break down deviations from optimal biomechanics and assist you in effectively diagnosing and prescribing orthotic solutions for your patients.

Custom Orthotics

A custom orthotic is a device designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position. They look like insoles, but are biomechanical medical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance. Custom orthotics work on your feet much like glasses work on your eyes - they reduce stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment. The plastic body of the custom orthotic helps to re-align the foot by redirecting and reducing certain motion that takes place during the gait cycle. Custom orthotics fit into your shoes as comfortably as an insole - and they have the advantage of having been made from precise imprints of your feet.

Movement Screening

At Offaly Physio & Performance Lab we use movement screening  to evaluate fundamental movement patterns in individuals with and without no current pain. The battery of movement screening tools is designed to place an individual in extreme positions where movement deficits become noticeable if there is a deficit in stability and mobility. Even though individuals are performing an activity or sport at a high level, it has been observed that many of these same individuals are limited in fundamental movement. This leads to the use of compensatory movements. These compensation movements can lead to increased loading of soft tissue and bone structures potentially leading to injury.

How do Orthotics Work?

Orthotics work by controlling abnormal motion across the joints of the foot. Orthotics can reposition your heel and mid-foot in a more stable position, so they can function more efficiently during weight-bearing and propulsion.

Orthotics can work on foot complaints like bunions, calluses and corns, heel pain, Achilles tendinopathy and as our feet are the foundation of our body, they’ll provide relief for back, hip, and knee pain.

Functional foot orthotics are custom-made rigid devices that you slip into your shoes to correct an abnormal walking pattern. They slightly alter the angle at which your foot strikes the ground, so your whole body is in better alignment.

Orthotics solve a number of biomechanically related problems, for ankle and knee pain, pelvis, hip, spinal pain. This is achieved by preventing misalignment of the foot, which significantly alters the way in which the bones move within their joints.
